The scenery can be great when riding in the fall. Tickets are a little pricey on regular days, but if your willing to spend the extra special event rides can be found via the website. These rides are during peak foliage seasons or holidays and sometimes include a meal on the train.

I've ridden the train 2 times, first as a child around 12 years old, and then again in my early 20s. Most recently I've returned to do photography.

Great experience and great service. Be careful going in hot weather if you are sensitive to the heat. The temperature is difficult to control on an old train like this. The meal was good, but spread out over 3 hours, which I didn't really mind. Overall, thumbs up...great place to bring the kids!

We had a great experience. We chose the open air coach. Beautiful scenery, very similar to the polar express movie, kids had a great time! Arrive early LOTS of photo opportunities. Def a great memory for the kids.

The train is very photogenic and the areas next to the engine and in front of the engine are completely accessible while the train is warming up and being loaded. This means you can get out there and shoot photos from any angle you want with no fences, obstructions or limits on your photography. Since the train moves at a semi-slow pace about 25mph, many photographers travel ahead of the train by car, setup and shoot photos, then tear down and setup again further down track for another set of photos.

Great place to take kids. Its a unique experience riding a steam/coal train over a distance.

While the distance this train covers isn't very far the ride lasts a little under an hour each way, its far better than the short rides you find in amusement parks or train museums. I've only had a similar experience in Northern New Mexico or Colorado. So this is as far as I know the only place to get the full steam train experience in Texas.

MY 10Chhildren ALST LIVED out there..We LOVED EVERY WE SPENT AT RUSK STATE RAILROAD. WE HAD OUR FAMILY REUNION THERE. FOR MANY YEARS.I WOULD NOT CHANE OUR MEMORIES OF. RUSK STATE RAILROAD.

Kids love this place. My son didn't want to leave. If you're trying to decide between coach and open air coach, go with open air coach. The open air coach doesn't have ac, but coach didn't either. So just take the cheaper one. Especially for one of the shorter drives.
